Special Needs

Picture It! and Pix Writer

These two programs help students with moderate to severe cognitive delays, speech/language disorders, hearing impairments, learning disabilities, visual disabilities, fragile X, TBI, severe speech and physical impairments, autism, and English a second language.

To use these programs you simply type a word, and a picture of the word will come up on the screen. A cartoon Genie will say the word that you just typed. This is very helpful for Special Needs students so they can not only type the word, but they can hear it and see what it means as well. You can type a whole sentence and the whole sentence will be read to you.

These two programs are very fun and friendly being that they have fun cartoon characters that guide you through the program and read you back the words you just typed. You can make the cartoon a Genie, wizard, bird or robot. You can also change the cartoon's voice to faster, slower, higher pitched, or lower pitched.

Picture it
To use this program, simply type the text into the story text box. Then go to the side bar and click the icon that looks like a tree. If you put the mouse over the picture, it will say parse. This transfers your words into the box and adds the pictures to it. You are now able to click the icon that looks like a speaker and the genie will talk to you.

Pix Writer
To use this program, simply type the text into the box. As you do this, pictures will appear with the word you just typed. The blue genie will then speak what you have written. If the word is like, and, or but, the genie will still say the word, bu there won't be a picture. Under options you can change the font size and picture size so the students can see it easier. You can also change the language from English to Spanish and the gender to boy or girl. Under the speech tab, you can change the voice of the genie to slower or faster or to a higher or lower pitch. This program helps with students who have difficulties with letter formation, sound-symbol relationships, and fine-motor skills. One unit of this program costs $199 and 5 units costs $700.
